A gallant Manly suffered a heartbreaking 19-18 loss to Mounties in the Harvey Norman NSW Women's Premiership today at Aubrey Keech Reserve, Hinchinbrook.
Trailing 18-6, the Sea Eagles got back to 18-all before a field goal five minutes from full-time gave Mounties victory to move them into third spot after both teams entered the game on the same amount of wins and points.
The loss leaves Manly on seven points in sixth position, one point outside the top five.
Mounties started strongly with a converted try to five-eighth Logan Lemusu for a 6-0 lead after nine minutes.
The home side went to a 12-0 lead after 17 minutes when winger Alanna Dummett crossed before the Sea Eagles got on the board three minutes later through half-back Tayla Montgomery with a nice try.
Dummett then crossed for her second to give Mounties an 18-6 lead at half-time.
The Sea Eagles started the second half perfectly with a try to centre Lavinia Tauhalaliku to make it 18-12 after 43 minutes after
It was Tauhalaliku's ninth try of the season after her five try haul in the win over Souths last week.
Manly winger Pier Pritchard then got the Sea Eagles level at 18-all after 57 minutes before Lemusuanded a field goal with five minutes remaining to give Mounties a 19-18 lead.
The ColourMaker player of the match award went to Lavinia Tauhalaliku.
The Sea Eagles now play Wests Tigers at Leichhardt Oval on Sunday, August 25, at 11.30am.
