Confidence boost for Manly's Harvey Norman Women's team

Manly Warringah Sea Eagles will be looking to build on their inaugural victory in the Harvey Norman Women’s NSW Premiership when they head to Kogarah on Saturday.

The Sea Eagles tackle the St George Dragons with their tails up after recording a thrilling 24-20 win over the Newcastle Knights at 4 Pines Park last Sunday.

It was a morale boosting win for the Sea Eagles following an 18-10 loss to the Parramatta Eels in round one and a 14-all draw against the Central Coast Roosters in round two.

Like his players, Coach Keith Hanley was just pleased to secure the first win in their debut season in the open age women’s competition, one step below the NRLW.

“We probably haven’t had the cohesion, composure or finish like we should have, but to get that first win means a lot for our confidence. We can now build off the back of that,’’ Hanley said.

“The first few weeks we have shown a lot of ability and determination. Early on against Parramatta, other teams would have folded. We got back into it but things didn’t go our way.

“Then against the Central Coast, we put ourselves under a lot of pressure with a big number of unforced errors that made it really challenging, but we managed to salvage something in a draw.

“And now we have built on that a little more with our first win, so we are really, really pleased."

Hanley said the tremendous support given by Sea Eagles supporters during the game was not lost on his team.

“There were a few girls walking around very nervously before the Knights game, but that showed how much it meant to them to play before the NRL match,'' he added.

"To get the chance to play in front of our Northern Beaches community on NRL game day was a wonderful occasion for everyone involved with this team."
