Queensland and Manly captain Daly Cherry-Evans has opened up on the joy of being able to share the Origin experience with his three young daughters.
On the eve of his 23rd appearance for the Maroons, the 35-year-old Cherry-Evans said it was a special time in his life to be able to embrace the Origin journey with his young family.
Cherry-Evans will be out to lead the Maroons to a fourth Origin series victory, having already achieved the feat in 2020, 2022, and 2023.
“I just want to go out there and treat every game like it is the last, which is what I have done for the last few seasons,'' Cherry-Evans said.
“I just want to maximise every opportunity. I’m so lucky to be here.
“They (Origin games) are more special in the fact that I have three daughters who are living every moment of it.
“They’re old enough now to really enjoy the journey. They have a pretty good idea of my job, who I get to hang out with and all that sort of stuff.
“It’s special for them. I’ve always been grateful of the opportunity to live out my dream to play rugby league, yet alone play Origin footy.
“The fact that my kids now come along for the journey…I’ve got nieces and nephews who love to come along to the game as well.
“It’s just so much more than just me going out there and trying to prove myself right. There’s a lot to do to just make sure that I’m inspiring my family to (chase) their dreams one day."
