The legacy of a great Australian soldier is behind the annual shield being played for by the Manly Warringah Sea Eagles and the Brisbane Broncos on Friday night.
Trooper David Pearce was an Australian soldier who was killed while deployed in Afghanistan in 2007.
A devoted Manly fan, Pearce was posted to the Gallipoli Barracks in Brisbane at the time of his deployment.
Following his passing, the Sea Eagles and the Broncos decided to play for the Trooper David Pearce Memorial Shield when they meet each season. Manly last won the shield in 2021.
The Sea Eagles are honoured to play for this shield in David's memory and look forward to seeing his family at Suncorp Stadium for our clash with the Broncos as part of NRL Magic Round.
