Brilliant half-back Daly Cherry-Evans has added another special milestone to his illustrious career by becoming the most capped captain in the history of the Manly Warringah Sea Eagles.
Cherry-Evans passed the record of 160 games held by Jamie Lyon when he captained the Sea Eagles to victory over the Sydney Roosters at 4 Pines Park on Sunday.
It was the 35-year-old's 307th game for Manly, who entered the NSWRL first grade premiership in 1947.
Cherry-Evans reached the milestone in the same game he entered the record books for the most field goals in the NRL era since 1998.
A humble Cherry-Evans said he was a bit 'shocked' when he was told about the achievement.
"I certainly never set out to be that (record holder), but I am extremely proud of how long I have been captain of this club,'' Cherry-Evans said.
"Looking at the list of the other captains who have been long standing, I just feel so lucky to be in the presence of those guys.
"It's a really nice moment and something that I am proud of."
Cherry-Evans was handed the captaincy role for the 2017 season by former Coach Trent Barrett following Lyon's retirement.
Now, 161 games later as captain, Cherry-Evans admits he still gets the same enjoyment as his did the first time he led the Sea Eagles out against Parramatta at Brookvale Oval.
"I guess, if anything, I love being connected to the playing group. It's a big reason why I play rugby league, for the connection and the camaraderie,'' he added.
"I love to compete on game days. I guess moving around the dressing room, I always like to see how everyone is going and on game day, I always like to lead with my actions and my competitive spirit."
When asked how much he has grown as a leader, Cherry-Evans was as modest as ever.
"As a person, I have changed a lot in nearly 10 years. I can't imagine how much my leadership style has changed,'' he said.
"Even though I have changed, I've always tried to be myself. I think naturally in a 10 year period someone is going to grow up and change.
"It's been cool to do that at the one footy club. I guess anyone who has been along for the whole journey can see the change in me.
"I feel like they have all been positive changes. I'm really proud of the captain I am and the person I am today.
"Whilst it is not perfect, I really enjoy coming to training and helping the boys."
