Manly Warringah Sea Eagles opened their Harold Matthews Cup season in impressive fashion with a 26-6 win over the St George Dragons today at Netstrata Jubilee Stadium, Kogarah.
Following a round one bye last weekend, the Sea Eagles dominated the first half to lead 16-0 at the break under new Coach Jordan Meredith. The Sea Eagles have 22 local juniors from the Manly District JRL in their squad this season.
The Sea Eagles got off to a perfect start when five-eighth Max Davies showed some fancy foot work to step his way to the posts for a 6-0 lead after four minutes.
Manly enjoyed a touch of fortune after the ball bounced between the legs of Dragons winger Tana Iese for winger Dane Woollett to score off a grubber kick from half-back Sam Flakus for a 10-0 lead.
A charging run from second-rower Beau McKee crash over next to the posts for a 16-0 lead after 17 minutes.
Th Sea Eagles went to a 20-0 lead after Kaleb Serafin crashed over out wide in the 37th minute. Ten minutes later, Manly winger Cooper Elkins finished off a nice play to dive over for a converted try in the corner for a 26-0 lead.
The Dragons scored a late consolation try under the posts to prop Willie Hehea for the 26-6 scoreline.
