Manly Warringah Sea Eagles are taking the next positive steps forward in developing their women’s program with the decision to field a team in the Harvey Norman NSW Women’s Premiership in 2024.
First founded in 2005 and expanded to its current format in 2017, the Harvey Norman NSW Women’s Premiership, run by NSWRL, is the only statewide open-age competition for women in NSW.
By fielding a Harvey Norman NSW Women’s Premiership team, the club has outlined a clear pathway for female rugby league players after the club competed in the Lisa Fiaola (U17s) and Tarsha Gale (U19s) competitions for the first time in 2023.
Manly will again field teams in both competitions in 2024.
Sea Eagles CEO Tony Mestrov said the club continues to work hard on establishing a quality women’s program.
“We saw first-hand this year just how much excitement and energy there was around our teams in the Lisa Fiaola and Tarsha Gale competitions,’’ Mestrov said.
“By playing in the Tarsha Gale Cup this year, it was the first major step for our club in the creation of a complete Sea Eagles female pathway, with the goal of gaining an NRLW licence in the near future.
“We are really pleased with the progress we have made over the past year with our women’s program. To win our very first game in the Tarsha Gale Cup was a wonderful and historic moment for the club.
“The girls who pulled on the Manly jersey this year can be very proud of their efforts.
“The club has a clear pathway with the Lisa Fiaola Cup, Tarsha Gale Cup and now the Harvey Norman Women’s Premiership.”
“We look forward to giving girls, including the many talented local juniors here on the Northern Beaches, the very best opportunity to play rugby league for Manly.”
