The race for the final five positions in the NSW Cup is hotting up with a crucial game ahead for the Blacktown Workers Sea Eagles on Saturday, July 22.
The Sea Eagles play the Newtown Jets at Henson Park, Marrickville, in what will be a massive day at one of rugby league’s traditional suburban grounds.
The match will be played as part of Newtown's annual ‘Beer, Footy, and Food Festival’, an event that always attracts a large crowd.
With six rounds remaining, Newtown sits third on 27 points with Blacktown Workers sixth on 22 points, one point behind the Warriors (fourth) and Canberra (fifth).
The Warriors play the Raiders in Auckland on Friday. The top five teams contest the final series.
The Sea Eagles head into the Jets game full of confidence after a great second half fightback saw them grab a 24-18 victory over Canberra at home on Sunday after trailing 12-8 half-time.
Blacktown Workers Coach Greg Boulous was pleased with the patience shown by his team to get back into the game.
“It was 12-8 there for a long period and we managed to hang in there and continued to show some fight again, especially in our defensive line,’’ Boulous said.
“We kept turning them away. We got the opportunity to get some possession and field position and managed to score some points. It was really pleasing.”
The Jets and the Sea Eagles drew 22-all at 4 Pines Park in round 11, setting up another great contest this Saturday.
“We were behind 16-0 against Newtown that day and we fought back to get a draw, and nearly got away with a win on the bell,’’ Boulous added.
“We have continued to build on our combinations since then. We have players coming up and down all the time which is a challenge in itself. It’s going to be a really tough game against Newtown but one the boys are looking forward to.”
Kick-off at Henson Park on Saturday is 3pm.
