Blacktown Workers Sea Eagles will be looking to get their NSW Cup finals campaign back on track at 4 Pines Park on Sunday, July 2.
The Sea Eagles play the Sydney Roosters in Round 18 as the curtain raiser to the NRL game. Kick-off 1.35pm.
Just two points behind the fifth placed South Sydney Rabbitohs, Blacktown Workers sit in eighth position and must beat the bottom placed Roosters to maintain their finals momentum. The top five teams contest the finals series.
Blacktown Workers go into the Roosters match on the back of a 30-16 loss to the Rabbitohs.
“It was a good quality game of footy against Souths. Unfortunately, we didn’t get the result,'' said Blacktown Workers Coach Greg Boulous.
"There were some areas I was really happy with in our game that we can continue to improve on against the Roosters this week.
“The competition is very tight. Anyone on their day can knock off their opposition."
After finishing with the wooden spoon in 2022, Blacktown Workers are enjoying one of their finest seasons to date under their new coach in Boulous, a high-performance sports coach with over 15 years of successful experience and knowledge in rugby league.
Boulous arrived at the Sea Eagles with an impressive resume, having been involved in coaching and junior pathways programs in Australia and New Zealand.
With the added depth and quality of the Manly Sea Eagles NRL squad available in 2023, Boulous has taken Blacktown Workers to six wins this season after the club only won two games last year. There are nine rounds remaining of the regular season.
Two of their best victories this season came against then competition leaders North Sydney Bears (36-30) before recording the biggest win in Blacktown's history in the NSW Cup with a 46-10 away demolition of Parramatta.
Boulous said part of the success of the Blacktown Workers season so far was due to the structures Sea Eagles NRL Coach Anthony Seibold had put in place in the pre-season.
“I think the key to the success is keeping connected and keep working on our craft and everyone getting the best preparation they can each week,'' Boulous added.
“Seibs has put in some very good procedures here that work and stand strong.
"We run that right through the club and it is important we maintain those high standards."
