Blacktown lose to Warriors in high scoring game

A strong second half fightback from the Warriors ended a two-game winning streak for the Blacktown Workers Sea Eagles in the NSW Cup on Sunday.

In a free-flowing game where 70 points were scored in 80 minutes, Blacktown Workers went down 40-30 in front of their home crowd at HE Laybutt Sporting Complex, Blacktown.

Three tries in the first half, including a double to winger Clayton Faulalo, saw the Sea Eagles lead 18-12 at the break with the Warriors running in 28 second half points.

After conceding a try to Warriors winger Sanele Aukusitino in the opening minute to trail 6-0, Blacktown quickly hit back when lock Zac Fulton dived on a grubber kick from half-back Troy Dargan to score a converted try for a 6-all scoreline.

Six minutes later, Faulalo got the first of his three tries when he stepped inside the defence to score from a great floating pass from full-back Jake Toby for a 10-6 lead.

The Warriors took a 12-10 lead in the 22nd minute through a converted try to Demitric Sifajula before Dargan and Toby combined from a scrum win to send Faulalo over for his second converted try for a 16-12 lead.

Five-eighth Jamie Humphreys kicked his third goal of the match with a penalty goal for an 18-12 lead after 33 minutes to give the home side a six-point lead at the break.

The Warriors drew level four minutes after half-time with a converted try to Setu Tu before Humphreys converted a try to winger Cameron Brown in the 48th minute to give the Sea Eagles a 24-18 lead.

Faulalo then crossed for his third try inside the final minute for the 40-30 scoreline with the Warriors crossing for seven tries to five to take the two competition points.

Humphreys kicked five goals for Blacktown. The loss leaves Blacktown in ninth place with two wins from six games.

Blacktown Workers now play the sixth-placed Western Suburbs Magpies at Campbelltown Sports Stadium on Sunday, April 23, at 1.35pm.
