New blood injected into Manly team for Souths clash

Manly Warringah Sea Eagles Harold Matthews Cup Coach Jay Younis will blood three new players for Saturday’s clash against South Sydney Rabbitohs.

The Sea Eagles tackle the Rabbitohs at Redfern Oval in round eight. Manly got into the match on the back of a 30-10 loss to Parramatta with Souths recording a 22-10 win over Balmain at home last weekend.

The Rabbitohs sit in 10th place with the Sea Eagles in 14th place.

“Coming off a tough game against Parramatta who we see as the benchmark this year, we competed well for major parts of the game but like all season, we have those 8-10 minute periods that let us down. The game is gone in an instant,’’ Younis said.

“South Sydney are a much improved and impressive side. We are down on troops like most teams but that gives us the opportunity for three more young players to make their representative debuts this weekend.

“Giving these young guys opportunities keeps the fire burning in the squad and there is plenty of energy in the team despite the results.”

Kick-off is 11.45am. See the Sea Eagles team here
