The grand old lady of rugby league, the majestic Sydney Cricket Ground, will host the round two clash between the Manly Warringah Sea Eagles and the Sydney Roosters.
We take a look at Friday night's clash through our maroon and white glasses.
Dylan’s new role
The return of Dylan Walker means two things for Manly – energy and experience. Walker made a big impact in his 14 appearances from 20 games off the interchange bench last season. He thrived in the middle forward role and was a key man during the finals run.
Turbo vs Teddy
Get ready for another mouth watering clash between the two star full-backs in Manly’s Tom Trbojevic and the Roosters’ NSW and Australian full-back, James Tedesco.
Trbojevic – the reigning Dally M Medallist – will be looking to get the sparks flying as he looks to ‘Turbo’ charge his game after our forwards were nullified by premiers Penrith last week.
250 Awaits
Respected two time Manly premiership winning Coach Des Hasler remains just one win away from a personal milestone.
A Sea Eagles victory against the Roosters will bring up 250 premiership career wins for Hasler.
Hasler has coached Manly to 161 wins and had 88 wins coaching Canterbury.
Head-to-Head
These two proud clubs have played 136 games between them with the Sea Eagles winning 86 matches for 48 losses and two draws.
The Roosters have won three of the last five matches between them.
Last Time We Met
The Sea Eagles knocked the Sydney Roosters out of the Telstra Premiership finals last September with a convincing 42-6 win in Mackay.
Full-back Tom Trbojevic crossed for two of Manly’s seven tries with winger Reuben Garrick kicking seven from seven in a match that saw the Sea Eagles lead 24-6 at half-time.
50 years on
Friday night’s match also marks 50 years since the first ever Manly Warringah Sea Eagles Premiership victory.
It was Saturday 16 September 1972 in front of a crowd of 54,357 at the Sydney Cricket Ground where Manly Warringah Sea Eagles defeated Eastern Suburbs Roosters 19-14.
