Rd 1, 1954

Second-rower Jack Hubbard scored two tries and Ron Rowles kicked six goals in the 27-15 win over North Sydney Bears.

The opening round NSWRL match at Brookvale attracted a crowd of 8000. George Hunter, Brian Staunton, and Gordon Willoughby also scored for Manly.

Rd 1, 1959

Prolific pointscorer Ron Willey kicked five goals in the 16-13 win over the Balmain Tigers at Brookvale.

Jim Peebles and Ray Ritchie scored for the Sea Eagles in front of a crowd of 5,500.

Rd 1, 1971

The great Ken Irvine scored a hat-trick of tries in the 38-9 win over the Parramatta Eels at Brookvale on a Sunday afternoon in front of more than 11,000 fans.

Prolific Test tryscoring winger Ken Irvine won premierships with Manly in 1972 and 1973. He scored 41 tries in 60 games for the Sea Eagles.

Irvine was not alone in the 10 try romp. Immortal Bob Fulton grabbed a double while Fred Jones, Ian Martin, Derek Moritz, John McDonald and Dennis Ward also scored. Full-back Bob Batty kicked four goals.

Batty was the first Manly player to play 200 first grade games and the first player to score 1000 points for the club.

Rd 2, 1976

Champion full-back Graham Eadie scored 11 points in Manly’s 17-13 win over the Western Suburbs Magpies.

A home crowd of 12,059 witnessed the Sunday afternoon clash with Eadie scoring a try and kicking four from eight goals.

Rod Jackson and Tom Mooney also crossed the tryline for the Sea Eagles.

Rd 2, 1984

A rare Wednesday match at Brookvale saw Manly record a convincing 26-8 win over Penrith Panthers.

In front of a crowd of 4,540, centre Chris ‘Choppy’ Close scored two tries as did Steve Hegarty. Centre Phil Blake also crossed for the Sea Eagles.

Rd 3, 1993

The old Wollongong Showground was the venue for the clash with the Illawarra Steelers.

There wasn’t much steel in the home team with the Sea Eagles winning 23-2 for their second victory of the season.

Winger Jack Elsegood, centre Chris Ryan, and prop Ian Roberts were Manly’s tryscorers. Full-back Matthew Ridge kicked five goals and a field goal.

Rd 4, 2013

A dominant second half performance saw the Sea Eagles record an impressive 26-0 win over the Wests Tigers at Grahame Park in Gosford.

Winger David Williams scored two tries with half-back Daly Cherry-Evans, centre Steve Matai, and lock Tom Symonds also crossing for Manly.

It was Manly’s third win in four games.

Rd 4, 2014

The Sea Eagles recorded a tight 8-0 win over the Sydney Roosters at ANZ Stadium on a Friday night.

Winger Cheyse Blair scored Manly’s lone try with centre kicking two goals in the Sea Eagles’ third win from the first four games of the season.
