The simple pleasure of playing in a sandpit and seeing endless smiles was not lost on Manly Sea Eagles lock Jake Trbojevic at Fisher Road Public School in Dee Why this week.
Jake was a special guest of the school who were proud to show off their brand new sandpit built through an act of kindness by a group of passionate volunteers from Downer Group.
Fisher Road School is a leader in special education and provides quality education for students from Kindergarten to Year 12 with moderate to severe intellectual disabilities in a safe and supportive learning environment.
As a friend of the Sea Eagles, Downer was Presenting Partner of the Sea Eagles’ ‘home game’ against the New Zealand Warriors in Christchurch in March this year.
“Downer is proud to work with Manly because we are also committed to supporting the communities we are part of,” said Michael Sharp, Downer’s Group Head of Investor Relations and Corporate Affairs.
Downer is the leading provider of integrated services in Australia and New Zealand, and is committed to giving back to the community through initiatives such as Fisher Roads School project.
Through the Sea Eagles’ relationship with Downer, Jake attended the opening of the new sandpit and experienced the sheer joy of what the sandpit and surrounding garden and playground area meant to the students and staff.
“It was a great little visit. The students certainly love the Sea Eagles. The staff are so dedicated and you can tell how much joy they get out of their work each day. They do tremendous work,’’ Jake said.
“The sandpit is excellent. It is well shaded and the students love it. The school is an amazing place. I really enjoyed my time there with everyone.”
