Sea Eagles stars Matt Ballin and Brett Stewart will be among thousands of people and famous faces helping raise much-needed funds and awareness for Brain Cancer this Sunday, November 30th.

Ballin and Stewart will be joined by the NSW Premier Mike Baird, NSW Waratahs forward Pat McCutheon, and Beach Walk4BrainCancer organiser Bec Lucas to raise much needed funds for Brain Cancer research when they take to the beach on Sunday.

NSW Premier and Member for Manly Mike Baird said that the awareness and funds the walk brings annually is simply sensational and encouraged every Sea Eagles member and fan to get down to support the event.

“We’ve got a local who is an amazing inspiration - Bec Lucas. She is someone who has inspired this local community and local groups to get involved. All the dollars that go to reducing the impact of brain cancer is well worth spending. It’s an amazing job that she’s done,” he said.

“If we can get every Sea Eagles fan down there, well there’s most of Sydney from my point of view!”

Bec Lucas, who lost her father in 2011 to brain cancer, is the event’s organizer and is hoping to equal the impressive financial result from last year.

“We are expecting this year to be bigger and better,” Lucas said.

“This year we’re parts of National Months of Walks across the country, with Australian’s getting to their feet all over Australia to send a big message that we want action on brain cancer.

“It’s really growing each year and we’re hoping to raise what we raised last year, which was $150,000.”

The Tony Lucas Research Grant funds medical research projects within the work of the Cure Brain Cancer Foundation. The grant was established by Bec shortly after his death, and to date has raised over $300,000 has been donated to the Cure Brain Cancer Foundation’s new collaborative research effort to accelerate a cure for brain cancer within 10 years.
