Sea Eagles face Jersey Flegg acid test against Raiders

Some heavy soul searching into a very poor display last week should see the Manly Warringah Sea Eagles come out firing in the Jersey Flegg Cup this Saturday.

The Sea Eagles were their own worst enemies through some poor handling in going down 26-16 to Parramatta at 4 Pines Park last Saturday. The round eight loss came just five after Manly beat the Eels 24-6 at Cabramatta.

The loss handed Parramatta their first win of the season and left Manly outside the eight in 10th place with three wins from seven games.

Manly Coach Scott Kenna was very disappointed with his side’s first half performance that saw the Sea Eagles down 22-0 at half-time.

“We just did not compete as hard as Parramatta did,’’ Kenna said of the first half disaster.

“There were some good signs in the second half once we moved the ball around out of our yardage. We will be looking to keep that flowing into this week.”

Kenna has made a few changes in the outside backs when Manly take on competition leaders Canberra at 4 Pines Park. The Raiders have won seven from eight matches.

“We have a few young exciting SG Ball players getting their chance against a very strong Canberra team,’’ Kenna added.

“The boys are keen and excited to bounce back and there is nothing better than taking on the competition leaders.”
